On the second anniversary of the outbreak of war in Sudan, Abdul Latif Abdullah Ismail, the Head of the Sudanese Social Democratic Party, issued a poignant statement reflecting on the ongoing humanitarian crisis and the profound loss experienced by the nation.
Two years ago, a devastating conflict erupted, leading to thousands of deaths and injuries, while forcing millions to flee their homes in search of safety. As the anniversary is observed, the party expressed deep sorrow and unwavering solidarity with the victims, emphasizing the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict.
In his statement, Ismail condemned those responsible for igniting and prolonging the war, particularly targeting the Islamic Movement and its militias, as well as the Port Sudan authorities, which he described as lacking legitimacy and exacerbating division within the country.
He also denounced the actions of the “Joint Forces” in North Darfur, led by Minni Arko Minawi and Gibril Ibrahim, for committing serious violations against civilians, including the use of human shields.
Ismail called on both regional and international communities to prioritize humanitarian conditions in Sudan, urging intensified efforts to support the pursuit of a peaceful and sustainable solution.
He emphasized that the path to healing lies in the formation of a new government that upholds justice, democracy, and equal citizenship.”Glory to the martyrs of the revolution and the resistance. Healing to the wounded, and freedom for all detainees. Victory is surely coming for our steadfast people,” Ismail concluded.
As Sudan grapples with the aftermath of conflict, the call for unity and a renewed commitment to peace resonates strongly among its citizens and leaders alike.
